The standard for dark comedies on television, SIX FEET UNDER takes a look at a dysfunctional family who operate a funeral home.
For this HBO series, we explored a creative direction melding death, drama, and dark comedy. Since we were working on the launch of a (then) new series, we generally explored more abstract and stylized print ad concepts rather than focusing on the cast.
For this print ad comp, I tried to meld the death and comedy themes into a type of visual pun: The hand of God using tombstones as chess pieces. I wrote the accompanying copyline to help sell the concept:
