HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER’S STONE was the first Harry Potter film, laying the groundwork for the young wizard’s many future adventures. Working on key art for one of the top grossing films of all time was an exciting proposition.
Working a full year before the film’s release, I designed a steady stream of Harry Potter poster “comps” (compositions), outdoor, print ads, standees, promos, toys, and every other type of key art advertising you can imagine.
For this international movie poster concept, I emphasized a darker mood with a blue color scheme and stylized smoke pouring from the Hogwarts Express train. The campaign design included a teaser poster featuring the train, with a follow-up final movie poster as a reveal of the cast in the train’s smoke. This teaser and reveal poster concept was also pitched as a single 3D lenticular motion poster. Lighthearted expressions from Harry, Hermione, and Ron help offset the dark tone.
