The Brothers McMullen

The Brothers McMullen is a comedy drama film directed, written, produced, and starring Edward Burns. After winning the Grand Jury Prize at the 1995 Sundance Film Festival, the small indie film was picked up for distribution by 20th Century Fox, and was the first film released by it’s “arthouse” film division, Fox Searchlight Pictures.

As part of that Fox Searchlight Pictures campaign, the film advertising agency I was working at the time created the movie trailer for the film. I was employed to create all the “title cards” for the ad, including the final logo title treatment that ends the trailer.

Following the Irish Catholic views on relationships that frames the storyline of the film, I created a simple film title logo which incorporated a traditional Irish Claddagh ring as part of the logotype. The ring features two hands clasping a heart with a crown. The ring symbolizes love (the heart), friendship (the hands), and loyalty (the crown).
